Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to in the media as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents, Winona Ryder's parents, chose her name after her hometown. Michel Horowitz is her father as well as Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder is Jewish. Ryder believes that her father had a Jewish background. Ryder has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Ryder's younger sister is Uria. When Ryder was just seven years old, her family moved from Mendocino County, California. Mendocino County California. They lived in a place without electricity. Ryder, who loved reading at the age of 12 years old, became a reader because Ryder was not able to access television. Ryder started taking acting classes at American Conservatory Theatre when she was 12 years old. In 1986 she was offered her first major-screen appearance in the movie Lucas at just 15 years old. Ryder was bullied at her high school. Ryder hoped her career in acting would alter this. However, it didn't come to pass. The actress continued to chase her goals. It was 1988 in the year Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that she got her big break. Ryder continued playing roles that were successful in various films. She was nominated for two Academy Awards one for her role on The Age of Innocence (1993).
